Todo lo que debes saber sobre los overgrips de pádel

Everything you need to know about padel overgrips

In padel, every detail counts. And although it often goes unnoticed, the overgrip is one of those elements that can make a big difference to your feel on the court. It provides grip, control, and comfort with every shot. But what about color? And what are the differences between smooth and perforated overgrips?

Why do advanced players prefer the white overgrip?

Although overgrips come in all colors, white remains the favorite among the most demanding players. This is no coincidence.

  • Better initial grip : The material of the white overgrip usually offers better grip, especially during the first few games.
  • Purer feel : Because it does not contain dyes, the white maintains a more natural texture, which translates into better contact with the handle.
  • Wear is clearly visible : With a white overgrip, it's easy to know when to change it. As soon as you see it dirty or shiny, it's time to replace it.
  • Less heat in the hand : On outdoor courts or in high temperatures, white absorbs less heat than dark colors, and this is noticeable in the feeling when holding the racket.

The only downside is that it gets dirty faster, but that's precisely what forces you to replace it more often… and that's always a good thing for maintaining optimal grip.

Smooth or perforated overgrip?

Another important decision is the type of surface: smooth or perforated. Although both serve the same function, they offer different sensations.

Smooth overgrip

  • More uniform feel.
  • Ideal if you're looking for control and a direct feel with the grip.
  • It usually has a drier and more stable grip.

Perforated overgrip

  • Improved breathability thanks to its micro-holes.
  • Highly recommended if your hands sweat a lot.
  • It helps keep your hands cool during long matches or in the summer.

Neither is inherently better than the other, but one might be better suited to your style and needs. Some players even combine both throughout the season depending on the circumstances.

Which one should you use?

If you prioritize performance, frequently change your overgrip, and like a precise feel on the racket, a plain white overgrip might be your best option. If you're looking for more ventilation or play in warm climates, a perforated white or colored overgrip can provide added comfort.

Remember: the overgrip is the first thing you touch on every point. Take care of it, and the rest of your game will thank you for it.
